Goblin Magazine

The first Irish skateboarding magazine in over a decade was released in December 2018. Goblin seeks to explore the unique perspective of a skateboarder’s relationship to architecture and the cityscapes they inhabit. This commentary leads to discussions around the growing shortage of public space and the saga-like battles faced when engaging with local councils.

Now going into issue #7, the magazine has grown a 10k+ social media following with a large print issue run that is distributed worldwide.

As the magazine grew in popularity it allowed the printed spec to include print specials such as an embossed masthead, emboldened with a clear gloss foil, creating a textural element. The use of a fifth colour in the shape of a bright Pantone green allows the magazine to have a signature colour, furthering recognisability.

Goblin also collaborates with communities on many different levels, engaging with councils on local and government level. In 2022, a crowd funded initiative led to the construction of a ramp for a small group of young skateboarders living on Inis Oírr of the Aran Islands.

Transition was a limited edition, hand numbered publication of photography and art that focuses on the lifestyle and cultural relationship skateboarding has within our community. Launched under the Goblin moniker, each copy of Transition came with two different individually packaged risograph prints.

Functioning as a creative outlet during the Covid-19 pandemic, it allowed Goblin’s community to showcase its talents whilst skateboarding was limited through nationwide restrictions. The publication was well received and bridged the gap for many until normal service was able to resumed.
